Bitcoin is falling after Binance confirmed what looks like the biggest crypto exchange hack ever, with an estimated $6.3 billion in total impact. Binance says a compromised engineer’s laptop let an attacker submit unauthorized withdrawals, about $3 billion has been frozen, and user funds are safe, with losses covered by its SAFU fund and company funds. Withdrawals are paused for now. I ask Dan Held how an exchange should handle a crisis like this, whether stablecoin freezes help users or make the best case for self-custody, and what Binance users should do now.
